I’m Andy Spittle. I was introduced to the outdoors officially when I was 3 or 4. My dad started a trapline on the family farm, and he carried me into the marsh to set coon and muskrat traps. I still remember the first catches we had back there.
My dad and I also trapped with my grandpa on the Juniata River, for several years, over thanksgiving week. That got trapping in my blood and it hasn’t left now for almost 40 years. I made it into a full-time job for the last 20 as a wildlife control trapper for S and S Wildlife. My family is very active in teaching trapping education classes at youth filed days and anywhere we get the opportunity.
At 14 I started bow hunting. It became a huge passion that I still hold as my favorite outdoor activity. I have had the chance to shoot several nice buck, and lots of doe. Around 10 years ago I bought a Thompson Center Renegade muzzleloader. That launched me into a new world of learning, friendships, hunting and competitive shooting. I can honestly say nothing has bit me harder than the black powder scene. I have shot woods walk steel courses for 4 years now. I had a custom made .54 cal. long rifle built 2 years ago. I look forward to the day after Christmas more than any other day of the year!
My son Luke is now 15 years old. He has been trapping with my dad and me since he was 3. He has also found success as another deer hunter in the family. He is currently shooting in a trap league and an indoor .22 league. My daughter Charli is 8. She is a ball of genuine fire! She is very willing to be in the woods with me to check trail cameras and plant food plots, mostly so she can drive pappy’s side-by-side.
Bottom line for me, I believe God made a lot of beautiful critters and a lot of beautiful places. I want to see as much as I can of both, and introduce as many people as possible to Him and His creation.
